  It's winter in Provo. Oh I'm missing the awesome temp. in Atlanta right about now. I think the high was 47 deg. but it didn't feel like it got that warm. It is snowing on Y mountain, Avery told the mtn. to snow down here. Woah this is going to be a big adjustment this winter. I still braved the conditions to take Avery to school, and we ran up to campus to meet Ben for lunch. The boys were buried in thick coats and blankets. It probably wouldn't have been as bad if weren't drizzling non stop. Avery and I did find the biggest leaf ever which is a bonus. Hazel told me a fact about the biggest leaves that her teacher, Miss Sanders told her. That they can get as big as a bus. She said that would be a great place to go for shade. Amen. Hazel has her first dance recital this November 28th, so I'll let all you locals know details about it, as I get them. Arr has been nominated to go to AZ for a national choir competition. I think she feels good being nominated, but is o.k. if she doesn't go. She has enjoyed singing, she feels like her life is very musical right now. Her piano recital went well last month. She got to play her songs twice because her teacher wanted to let all our fam. hear her, and some had come in right after she'd finished playing the first time. Heath is missing summer swimming. He loves baths because he tells me he's swimming. He asked me the other day if we could go swimming, it would be great to find somewhere to swim like the Provo City rec. center. We do miss the CRC at Georgia Tech, we did go swimming year round there.
   Ben and I got to have the best date ever. We hiked to the top of Y mountain. It took us 2 1/2 hours to climb to the peak and then an hour and a half to climb back down. It was so beautiful with fall colors that were so bright. We went through forests with huge, thick trees. There were pretty white aspen trees. There is this really cool meadow, toward the very top of mtn. There are mountains close by and it was such an incredible view to see all the colors of the leaves from the other mtns. and the valley below. We got to the top when the sun was setting-sooo pretty. There was a football going on at the stadium against Utah State Univ. We could hear the crowds cheering. We went down the mtn. in the dark, and used our cell phones to see, which was a great flashlight. It was awesome to have so much time with Ben, and so great to see all the beauties of nature with the mister.
   It's a good thing we hiked the mountain last week, the colors were at their peak and now it's cold. At this moment it is snowing outside. It really is winter, the snow is really pretty. Avery wants to build a snowman right now, he is so excited for winter weather here. It won't last too long though, it's supposed to get back up to the 60's on Sat. Avery's wanting to play in it so bad but we can't get his cast wet. He has a short cast now, 2 weeks earlier than was scheduled. He got the new cast because his bone is healing so well and he softened up the bottom of his long cast quite a bit because he walks on it. We're trying to make this one last until Oct. 28th and then he'll be cast free. Woo hoo! He's a great mover on his crutches. He can go about as fast as someone walking. He does get tired after awhile but it hasn't stopped him from playing, and climbing, at the playground. He just sends his crutches down the slide and slides after them. He really has adapted well to a broken leg.

The boys and I went to Wasatch elementary to see the local news helicopter doing a story on the chinese immersion program the school does from 1st grade on up. The boys really got a kick out of the helicopter, they especially loved watching it fly up in the sky, Heath kept talking about it. That is a picture of our backyard with a male deer peeking out behind the bush with a pole in front of it. It's not very clear but so cool to see, he's come back with a female one other time. We went up to Squaw Peak as a family once the leaves started to change colors. Avery lead the way on a trail on the mountain. He was much more adventurous than we were expecting with his crutches. Arryana's piano recital at the BYU harris fine art center. She wasn't nervous and really enjoyed playing. We had quite a turnout from the fam-thanks for all the support. :) Arr and her piano teacher, Boyd played a duet that was well done. Ben and Arry playing a smashing pumpkins duet he taught her for the beginning of the song "Today". Avery's new bright yellow cast he had picked out before hand as the next color choice. He said next time he may do red, and then blue paw prints-let's not plan for a next time. Avery and Heath swinging at Pioneer Park in Provo. Ben and I took some pics. of our hike up Y mountain. Oh the sweet bonders, Heath is such a cuddler and just loves his Nana.

Okay just to give an update on things in our household. The big new event is that Avery broke his tibia bone in two places when he was playing on his new scooter, the bottom swung around and wacked him in the shin and he fell down at a weird angle. He's now in a long cast that goes all the way up to his thigh. He will be in that for a month and then they will put a short cast on him for another month. Oy vey. He has been such a trooper in this learning curve for us all. He broke it last Thurs. missed school Fri. and Mon. and was so happy to get back on Tues. His teacher is awesome and a big help and support to us in adjusting to this new development. He got his cast Wed. and his crutches on Fri. and he's doing pretty well with them. The kids had a fall festival for their school last night and that was where Avery got to break in the crutches. Hobbling through big crowds is certainly an extreme scenario to learn in. Ben was with him, and I took the rest of the crew. Ben said the first hour was rough, getting him independent, but then he got the hang of things. The fall festival was a lot of fun.

The kids all won lots of pop at the pop walk, and had fun making their own pop creations to enter in the pop parade. The big prizes were ipods and gift cards. There were some clever entries, my fav. was a Calvin and Hobbes pop creation, the big winner was an angry birds display. Arry made an Athena creation with a 7 up bottle and called it, Athena the goddess of 7-UP. Hazel made a striped dress for her creation, and made herself in rootbeer pop form. Avery made a robot with an orange fanta 2 liter, and cut out little shapes and colored them red and glued them onto the aluminum foil he put around the pop and made an aluminum head with a smiley face (I don't have a pic. so that's why I'm trying to be really descriptive). It's the big fundraiser for the year and they made a good amt. of money. It's great to have BYU so close, we had a lot of help from BYU students, there were BYU basketball players shooting hoops with kids, the Bean Museum came with live animals, and they donated a lot of stuff for the silent auction. Arry is already such a huge BYU fan, she wanted to buy a lot of the stuff. Her fav. pic. that could be bid on was a picture of Jesus Christ holding a newborn baby and the baby was smiling. She said it was priceless-indeed. Hazel had a lot of fun on the jumpies and spent most of her tickets there. She climbed across this ladder in one shot without falling. She has a real instinct for climbing. Avery played games most of the time and won a lot of tickets, he kept them as souvenirs instead of cashing in for candy. Arry won 3 pop creations, getting into the pop walk, she also liked getting BYU, and a cougar paw print painted on her face. Heath had the most fun on the playground, and got himself pretty soaked, as it had just rained.
Arry has her first piano recital this next Sat. at BYU. She's looking forward to it, it's great to have family close by that can come as well. Hazel is starting two dance classes next week-a competition jazz and hip hop class, and a ballet class. It should be fun-the little lady loves to dance on Arry's wii with a game called Just Dance 2. I know dance can get kind of intense here in Utah so hopefully it's a good mix of structure and fun. Avery, well we are keeping things a little low key for the guy. Maybe he'll go out for soccer in the spring. Heath is having fun being his busy little self. I looked outside the other day to see him climbing the ladder to the top of the shed. Once I sprinted out there he had gotten on top of the shed, so I'm climbing up the ladder as fast as I can and he smiles down at me and says "Hi mommy" So I'm trying to calmly tell him we don't climb onto the roof and we need to stay off the ladder, and he said his little "Okay." Kids sure do keep you on your toes, literally, climbing a ladder with those toes.

Ben and I have started meeting for lunch which Avery and Heath are loving as well. Ben and I went running around the campus on Fri. which was fun, Ben probably wouldn't use that adjective but he did have a smile on his face, so I could interpret that it was a torture kind of fun like when you laugh when you are being tickled. His health insurance is awesome at BYU and we are so happy to have great insurance, but they have an incentive to earn money by doing exercises and eating well and completing diff. challenges so we are doing a health challenge right now to get 30 min. at least of exercise a day. Sweeeet. TTFN-until next time. :)

The changing lives of the Webbs

   Here is a little update on the former Atlanta-currently Provo Ut Webb Family. I have documented our lives picture wise from packing up and selling all our furniture-oh the kids sleeping on the foor, to our stint in Oakridge Tennessee for Two weeks- Children's Museum, Science Museum ,and Smokey mtns.- baby, our goodbyes to good friends in ATL and our new adventures in Utah-temple square, hiking Y mountain. first days of school for the kiddos-it's all here.
   It has felt like a vacation for the first couple of weeks of arrival. It was a non stop party with family that for the last 6 years we only saw on vacation. The mountains are beautiful, we have hiked Y mountain a couple of times with Heath in tow, the other kids did pretty good on their own. They are liking their newfound independence, the girls ride their bikes to school, Avery just got a scooter to ride to school with the girls and I pick him up a little after 11 am, he's an AM kindergarten boy. Heath and I hang in the morning together, lately doing yard work, which I am getting a kick out of-I mowed the front and back lawns today. Heath loves to turn on the sprinkler which today he told me "the stroller is super wet" thanks to his handiwork.
  Arryana has started piano and is really enjoying it, she has a recital coming up at BYU at the end of the month. She is also performing in a choir at school which takes some real dedication, they meet at 7:30am sharp Mon. and Wed. She is having fun in our community where our neighbors go to our church, and the teachers and students also are in our ward. She is loving living close to family, and getting together with cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents.
   Hazel is loving all the trees to climb in our backyard. There is a basketball court too that the kids love to rollerblade and spin on a cart that has four wheels, and has a rope attached that they pull each other around with. Hazel fell off the cart and scraped her knee so she came inside for some TLC and as she's describing how she hurt herself, she said "it was so much fun" and then ran back outside for more cart cruising before even asking for a band aid. She loves her teacher at school, and really likes when she dresses fancy in a skirt or dress. She is enjoying having friends from school as neighbors as well.
  Avery is enjoying Kindergarten and told me in the morning on the first day of school " I want to make friends because then I can have people come to my birthday party." He was happy to tell me he did meet some friends. He loves show and tell, they have it every Thurs. for everyone. Today's theme was to bring in two toys that rhyme so he brought in a book, and a hook. When I pick him up after school he and Heath have been my running buddies, they ride in the jogging stroller and Avery just chats about his day and everything he sees. Heath is content to point out different landmarks we pass and play with his toy skateboard lately.
   Heath is my busy little man. I love to watch him outside exploring. He shoots baskets in the little basketball hoop, he pushes around a little doll stroller, and swings in the tire swing, and eats pears he finds by the pear tree. He likes me to read to him, and he is getting into playing with blocks and puzzles. He's really into trying to play with things that are not toys like the sprinkler mentioned above and the oven, that's been a new fav. pushing all the buttons. We have a lot of fun together and he is my little snuggler with great hugs and kisses. He is also my singer, he loves to sing songs from the radio, songs from primary, he really likes the song Dynamite that the girls did a dance to at school last year so it's made my ipod rotation.
  Ben is enjoying being back at BYU in a faculty position this time so it means that it's very much the same stuff he's been doing-as he's been teaching since his master's program but now he goes to a lot of meetings. He also gets paid more which is nice and benefits to boot so bonus all around. He is brainstorming ways to stay at BYU in a tenured position. The math chair has told him they would like to see him in a more permanent position. They are trying to change the policy that he would have to leave for a year before he could reapply so he could just stay. :) He has some interesting research he'll be working on this year. He's hoping to get his adviser, Dr. Bunimovich from Ga Tech out here for a Colloquium to give a talk for all the mathematicians about his research. His advisor is world famous for his research with billiards in math. He also is trying to bring some other colleagues to come talk at BYU that he has met at different math conferences. Ben will also be traveling a bit to different math conferences to share his research as well.

I am loving it here in Provo. I do miss everyone in Atlanta and I know it will take some time to meet some great friends like I had. I have met some really nice people in our community, and it's nice that everyone is so friendly-something you find in the south as well (southern hospitality). I have enjoyed getting together with family-people I am already tight with-you can't beat family bonds. It has been fun to reconnect with friends we've stayed in touch with that still live in the area. I love that our world is all within walking distance. Ben walks to campus-door to door it's 15 min. I mentioned the kids and my commute to their school-it takes like 7 min. walking. We walk to church-just up the hill. There are so many running friendly areas that I can go with the boys. I did run solo up to the Y parking lot and downhill was a little rough on the shins so I might find a run not quite as steep. The dry climate is nice and it's already cooling a little to make it feel like fall a bit-like in the 80's. I found out that I can go to BYU tuition free since Ben is faculty so I would love to work something out with the little man so that I could take some classes. At this point I would go back for a degree in early childhood education, I enjoyed working with kids so much from the Preschool I worked at in Atlanta. Here is my novel on our new lives, it's been a pretty easy transition, probably because we have lived here before so we're sliding back into our old stomping grounds. I love you all and miss y'all.

Ben and I ran a half marathon, Sat. Feb. 27. It was fun to run with the mister. It was a pretty run over bridges and right by the river. Our friend Keisha watched our crew and they all went to the zoo and had a lot of fun.

I won a contest to see Silversun Pickups in a live X performance at 99X studios. Ben and I went on Fri. Feb 26 at 11:00 am. We got to see them play up close in the front row. There were probably 30 other fans. It was awesome-super sweet show. They played 4 songs that we really like and we got to meet them afterwards and get their autographs. It was awesome.

The big 10 year anniversary

Ben and I's 10 year anniversary. He surprised me with a trip to Charleston SC. It was awesome, such a cool city. We had little Heath with us, our neighbors kept our older kids, and Heath was complying as usual. It was a perfect way to celebrate a decade of a great marriage. :)

The big 8. It was a great day. She got to be baptized on her b-day, which was coincidentally a swimming party so it was a water themed day. When I talked to her in the dressing room after she was baptized, she said she "felt perfect and that she knew it wouldn't last and Jesus felt like that all the time so he was lucky." The things I learn from my kids, Arryana is a perceptive little lady and she has helped me remember how great I felt after my baptism. Ben made a goal to have his PhD before he baptized Arryana. He is close, he is ready to graduate this spring. We'll see where we end up for a post doc. Ah the adventures ahead.
